What is the Cancer Drug List, and how are you affected by it

We hope this newsletter finds you well. Today, we’re here to talk about something important that affects many of us in Singapore – the Cancer Drug List, or CDL for short. Let’s break it down into easy-to-understand points:

What is the CDL?
The CDL is a list of cancer treatments that the Singaporean government has approved for financial support. It’s like a menu of treatments that have been checked for quality and cost-effectiveness.

Why was the CDL introduced?
Cancer treatment can be expensive, and the government wants to make sure that these life-saving treatments are more affordable for everyone. By having a CDL, the government can help control the costs and make sure that the treatments are within reach for those who need them.

How does the CDL help?
If you or someone you know is undergoing cancer treatment, the CDL ensures that you won’t have to worry about the treatment costs skyrocketing. The list includes treatments that are covered by MediShield Life and Medisave, which means you can use your insurance and savings to pay for them.

What changed from 1 April 2023?
Starting from 1 April 2023, if you buy or renew an Integrated Shield Plan (that’s an extra insurance plan on top of MediShield Life), it will only cover the treatments listed on the CDL. This change helps keep insurance premiums manageable for everyone.

The CDL is here to help make cancer treatment more affordable and accessible. It’s part of the government’s effort to ensure that no one has to face the financial burden of cancer alone.
